Cameron Gray is one of New Zealand’s top competitive swimmers, representing Coast Swimming Club under the guidance of coach Michael Weston. As a National Champion and New Zealand Record Holder, Cameron has consistently proven himself on both national and international stages. Competing in the Open age group, he has made his mark in sprint freestyle and butterfly events, achieving remarkable success over the past three years.

Cameron’s international breakthrough came at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he won a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly with a time of 23.27 seconds. That same year, he competed at the World Championships, finishing 35th in the 50m butterfly (24.01s) and 39th in the 200m freestyle (1:50.64).

Later in 2022, he continued his dominance at the World Short Course Championships, setting a New Zealand Record in the 50m freestyle (21.50s) while finishing 30th overall. He also placed 18th in the 50m backstroke (23.49s) and helped the Mixed 4x50m freestyle relay team secure 7th place, delivering an impressive 20.7-second split.

The highlight of Cameron’s career came in 2024 when he competed at the Paris Olympic Games. He swam in the 100m freestyle (31st, 49.24s) and 100m butterfly (32nd, 53.84s). Unfortunately, he contracted COVID-19 during the competition, impacting his performance.

Cameron Gray continues to be a standout talent in New Zealand swimming, with a relentless drive to achieve on the world stage. His commitment to excellence and perseverance in the face of challenges position him as a strong contender for future international success.
