We are the Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation

Since 1996, the Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation has been dedicated to nurturing the potential of West Auckland’s young athletes. Named after legendary Olympian Don Oliver, the Foundation provides tailored scholarships to support athletes aged 14–21 who have the talent, drive, and “x factor” to succeed at the highest levels.

From Olympic and Commonwealth Games stars to community leaders, our scholars have made an enduring impact in sport and beyond. Join us in continuing Don Oliver’s legacy of excellence, equity, and community spirit.

How We Support Young Athletes

At the Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation, we’re more than scholarships – we’re a community-driven organisation helping promising athletes turn potential into achievement. Here’s how we make a difference:

Scholarships

We provide tailored scholarships to help athletes meet the costs of competing at a high level. This includes funding for training, travel, equipment, and personal development. Our goal is to remove financial barriers so athletes can focus on their growth and performance.

Recognition

Our awards celebrate the hard work and achievements of young athletes. We offer Gold, Silver, and Bronze Scholarships to recognise excellence, along with Training Grants for those who are on the cusp of national and international success.

Encouragement

Not every athlete wins a scholarship the first time they apply, but we believe in nurturing potential. That’s why we introduced Letters of Commendation—to motivate emerging talents, acknowledge their efforts, and inspire them to keep striving for greatness.

Inclusion

We are committed to creating equal opportunities for all athletes. The Harry O’Rourke Memorial Scholarship was introduced to celebrate and support para-athletes who demonstrate outstanding talent and determination. These athletes are judged on their achievements and potential, ensuring they receive the recognition and support they deserve.

Connection

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. By partnering with local businesses, organisations, and the wider West Auckland community, we create a network of support for young athletes. This collective effort helps provide the resources, opportunities, and encouragement needed for them to succeed.

Long-Term Impact

Our work doesn’t stop with scholarships. We aim to shape well-rounded individuals who carry the values of resilience, dedication, and community into their future. Many of our recipients go on to mentor others, inspire their communities, and become leaders both in and out of the sporting world.

Celebrating Our 2024 Scholarship Recipients

In 2024 the Don Oliver Sport Foundation awarded funding to 17 outstanding young West Auckland sports people.

Our Sponsors – Building Futures Together

We couldn’t do this without the support of our incredible sponsors. Their generosity helps us provide scholarships, training, and personal development opportunities to the athletes who inspire us all.

Help us create the next generation of champions
